Let’s delve more about Chetna And her ChetChat further in the blog.

Chetna Vasishth's Biography

What are your future plans? Travel the world? Buy a house at your dream location? Write a book? Startup? Let me suggest one. What about hosting India’s number one chat show on the internet or maybe on television? Sounds fancy right? Full of name, fame and money.

But that’s not the reason what motivated Mrs Chetna to start her own educational chat show. On the contrary, to help others, to fulfil their dreams was her driving force

And what else could we expect from a daughter of an Air Force officer! She shares her guiding mantra as such-

“Someone once told me that having a goal larger than yourself and being passionately committed to it, come what may, is the only way to achieve success. How passionate you are about the impact you want to create and that impact should be larger than yourself, larger than just money or fame. And this is not only for an entrepreneurial venture but for any success in life.”

Chetna Vasishth's Career

With a very subjective perception, I am truly ignorant about the definition of a successful career. But, indeed Mrs Chetna has collected one of the finest brands into her pocket throughout her career.

  • BA(Hons) from Delhi University as a rank holder.
  • MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur (Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations) in 1992 and awarded Gold medal for the best performance in the field of economics.
  • Worked in ANZ Grindlays Bank( not Gryffindor) and Standard Chartered Bank for 10 years and heading the Sales team of the Corporate and Institutional Bank for Standard Chartered Bank in Bangalore in 2002.

Now, she shares her experience of her profound career.

Why YouTuber?

Maybe she is right about what she believes in, that the universe always conspires to make things work for the best. And how miraculously someone just participates in her story to motivate and guide to play her part in the bigger conspiracy.

One such miracle participated as her son. Or maybe Mrs Chetna is playing a part in his bigger play. Who knows!

But definitely, the birth of her son introduced a different chapter in her life as she took a break from the corporate world and began teaching Marketing at several leading business schools like IIM Bangalore, NMIMS, IIPM etc. as visiting faculty.

Until in 2007, she set up a Training and Management Consultancy firm — Learning Tree. Ironically, this is the best metaphor I could probably think for her. A learning tree.

It was a great success too. The tree grew to the client base of more than 20 leading Financial Sector Banks and financial institutions e.g. HDFC Bank, DBS Bank, Barclays Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IDBI Bank, Societe Generale, Deutsche Bank, Edelweiss Capital.

For any other individual, to create a startup after their corporate life could be a dream and probably the plan for next of their life. Not for the person whose mantra for life is beyond her selfish desires.

With her vast experience with the students (mainly graduates and above), she realised that the students were struggling to get genuine and authentic information and guidance for their career. And guidance should reach out to youngsters not only when they are established in their careers but earlier as they are about to make the choices that would then define them.

Hence, her YouTube journey started with the vision,

“The youth are our biggest asset and I see them struggling to get basic information on their career plans, future goals and jobs. If we can shine a torchlight and set them on the right path, sooner or later, they will discover their own light for the rest of their journey. My goal is to invite every inspirational leader, celebrity and change agent on my show and give them a platform to address the youth of the world to guide them, motivate them and inspire them”.

Chetna Vasishth's as a YouTuber

The year 2015. The idea was good and unique, to invite top professionals and share their guidance and experiences, the intention was good and courageous, the goal was set, the fund was bootstrapped. But how to execute?

Like Karolina Goswami(previous blog), Mrs Chetna was also a complete amateur in this field. Either video making or social media management, sound or light, none of them were her previous dishes. Shooting videos with a single camera without mics and lights, shooting outdoor videos with too many ambient noises, people refusing to be interviewed, ignoring her calls were some of the initial apricots.

As the word defines itself, her husband Mr Dheeraj Vasishth indeed followed through all the hurdles as a true ‘life-partner’.

Finally, Mrs Chetna uploaded her 1st video on 12th August 2015 in her Channel named “ChetChat”. One can get an idea of the situations from her initial videos.

To learn the craft of video editing, Chetna started attending workshops and edited the first 100 videos on her own to ensure she knew her craft well. She defines her attitude towards new skills as such. “I would consider my ability to transition from one field to another seamlessly as my greatest achievement. I am not afraid to pick up brand new skills and master them”.

The shell broke. Soon the people from other countries like USA, Canada, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, France, UK started reaching out to her in search of genuine advice and guidance. And her urge to reply to each and every comment to build a relationship with her viewers showcases her strong feminine characteristics.

On a daily basis, she replies almost 100 messages from all around the world on her various platforms.

ChetChat audience insight

Her most of the audience resides in India and United states. Soon, Chetna started to touch the milstones of YouTube. In year 2019, she travelled from 100k subscribers to 500k subscribers

There are hundreds of educational videos on the internet but none of them directly competes with ChetChat is what Chetna ensures. Touche! All the positivity, hard work, student-centric and genuine willingness to help the youngsters in the form of free videos under one platform is hard to compete.

Here’s what else she ensures for her viewers,

  • High-quality discussions with very selective people.
  • Deeply researched, genuine and student-focussed information.
  • Answer student questions personally and provide substantial guidance for free.
  • Unbiased information. Commitment towards students and in their favour.

One can easily disagree with the statement that Chet Chat is just a pile of facts and educational data after visiting the channel. Since Mrs Chetna had been into the educational industry for over a decade, she deeply understands the focal points of the current generation and tries to address in her channel.

Since its inception, Mrs Chetna and her Chet Chat has reached a far side

  • Chetna got the privilege to meet and interview more than 150 leaders of their fields, celebrities, students, start-up founders and CEOs.
  • 650k subscribers
  • 18.5 Million total views
  • New Indian Express published Chetna Vasishth as one of the 18 people to watch out for in 2018.
  • She also got the opportunity to share her vision for the future generations at TEDx

  • Two of her most viewed videos crossed over 2 million views.

But, it’s nowhere close to what she has a vision for the impact she wants to create.

She aims to make ChetChat the No.1 platform for every student, right from school to higher education, covering all aspects of education on one single platform. She took her another step towards creating a new series called “MasterClass with ChetChat” which features research-based analytical information from entrepreneurs and experts.

Chetna plans her next step to build a discussion board for students where experts could answer student’s questions directly. A podcast and eBooks are the other things we could expect in the near future.

Mrs Vasishth might have left the corporate world but not the discipline and the learnings. Her corporate analytical planning behaviour could be easily felt in the way she handles her each activity. Either her daily routine or managing a YouTube channel, creating a team from scratch or including downtime in her weekly schedule. She shares her daily voyage as such.

Editor's Column

Chetna’s one of the initial motives was to reach students earlier in their lives so that it could yield something valuable. Even though she has created a huge impact into so many lives, majority of her viewers age between 24-34. May be she could focus next few videos to grab the attention of 17-24 group. People expects from who has created hope in their mind and Chetna definately has.

I think Chetna Vasishth could be the next guest in her ChetChat on the topic “How to become a successful YouTuber”. There is no doubt that how YouTube is emerging as a great profession to pursue. A proper dedication and interest of creating right videos not just brings satisfaction and financial stability to the creater but also creates a bigger impact into the society. We could clearly see from the lives of other YouTubers like Tanya Khanijow and Jaby Koay.
